Container handling in washroom

The Washroom Multi-Bin Tipper takes various containers from different manufacturers, secures them in place, lifts them hydraulically, and tilts them ±90° so that operators in the washroom can open the lids and valves, inspect the interior, and dry the containers.

The challenge

AbbVie uses various container types, sizes, and frame geometries. The new machine was required to:

  • accept all existing and futurecontainers
  • work with multiple adapter systems (A, B, C)
  • maintain the proven functionality of the older Servolift #12017
  • ensure safe detection and clamping for every bin type
  • operate reliably in a washroom environment (water, chemicals, hygiene requirements)

In short: one machine needed to safely handle many incompatible container designs.

How the requirement was solved

The solution combined mechanical redesign, extended sensor logic, and a modular adapter concept:

✔ Redesigned clamping system with a larger 105° movement range and Ø20 mm adapter interfaces
✔ Adapters A, B, and C to accommodate different bin frames and footprints
✔ Additional sensors for bin detection, clamping position, and inversion angles
✔ Reinforced support arms with plastic guides for widths up to 1200 mm
✔ Hygienic, sealed construction suitable for washroom operation (NEMA‑4X, stainless steel, pharma‑grade finish)
This created a universal, flexible, and GMP‑compliant lifting and tipping system.

Benefit for the customer

  • One machine for all bins → no need for multiple devices or manual workarounds
  • Higher safety through interlocks, position sensors, and hydraulic brakes
  • Consistent, repeatable handling → supports validation and reduces operator dependency
  • Hygienic and robust design ideal for washroom use
  • Future‑proof thanks to adapter C and modular clamping concept
  • Faster workflows for washing, inspection, and drying

AbbVie receives a reliable, flexible, and long‑term solution that integrates seamlessly into their existing processes.
